RIGHT TOMBERLIN:
OBITUARY OF WRIGHT TOMBERLIN, SR.

In memory of Wright Tomberlin, who departed this life at his home in Wilcox County, Ga., on the 17th day of September, 1880, is the sixty first year of his age. Wright Tomberlin was born in Wilkinson County, Georgia, on the 30th day of July, 1817. In the year 1832 he moved to Irwin County, Georgia, and remained upon the place where he first settled until the day of his death which occurred after an illness of six days of paralysis of the bowels.

The deceased raised a family of eleven children, all of whom enjoyed the best of health and grew into manhood and womanhood, and all but one having married.

During his long life he was ever regarded as one of the best of citizens. He was kind and obliging to his neighbors, always visiting the sick and giving to the needy. He was a tiller of the soil and it is said of his that he never bought but one bushel of corn, but always made plenty and some to spare.

Our deceased friend was visited by his neighbors during his brief illness and recieved their sympathy and condolence.

On the morning of the 19th of September, 1880, the holy sabbath day, at 8:00, the old homestead and premises were crowed with his relatives and numerous friends to take the last farewell look at old uncle Wright Tomberlin, whose remains were borne by the Fraternity to their last resting place in the family cemetary. There his body was deposited with all the honors that could be conferred.

The funeral services were conducted by Revs. O. D. Mulky, J. W. Mashburne, and Elias Turner. The following was adopted: Resolved, that our heart felt sympathy be tendered to the bereaved family and numerous friends of our deceased brother and friend, and that while we deeply regreat our loss, we feel that it is his eternal gain.

Resolved, that a copy of this be tendered to the bereaved family and that same be published in the Hawkinsville Dispatch.

Signed:
      Drury Reid, S. D. Fuller,
      Elias Turner
