Private, 3rd. Battalion, Gloucester Co., N.J. Militia under Col. Richard Somers and also a private in Col. Richard Somers' Battalion, New Jersey State Troops,Revolutionary War.William's will is in Book A., page 29, Cape May Court House, New Jersey.Probate wills, F#441460 SLFHL. Will was dated, 13 December, 1797, and probated, 10 November, 1804. In his will, Willian left everything to his wife Martha, until her death or remariage, after which, William II was to receive the land he was living on in Gloucester as his own, but was to pay his sister Mary Locke, twenty pounds.William's sons; Benajah, Gedediah, Samuel and Matthew were to receive the Plantations in Cape May as their own, share and share alike. Benajah was to pay his sister, Martha 20 pounds; Gedediah was to pay his sister Sarah 20 pounds; Samuel was to pay his sister, Millisent, 20 pounds and Matthew was to pay his sister Drusillah, 20 pounds. William's wife and son Samuel were executers to this will.Deed book H, page 308, Cape May, says: "Thomas Leaming and Rebecca, his wife, of Philadelphia Pa., sell two tracts of land on Goshen Creek, Middle Precinct, County of Cape May, State of New Jersey, to William Tomlin for 1100 pounds gold and silver money,in 1797.By Burlington records, William Tomlin bought land near Doughty's Tavern in 1776. This was later known as the Old Tomlin Farm and was later still willed to his son William II.Migration:William and Martha moved with their family from Gloucester Co. about 1780, to Cumberland Co. and from there to Cape May on 1797.

Notes for JACOB TOMLIN:
Private in the Gloucester co. Militia and of the New Jersey State Troops. When honorably discharged attempted to walk home after the surrender of Cornwallis. Weakened from service and exposure, he died on the way and was buried by his companions in the forest at Somerset, New Jersey.

Notes for JAMES TOMLIN:
He was a private in the New Jersey State Troops. Corporal, Sergeant and orderly sergeant in the Gloucester co. Militia. He was 21 at the time of his enlistment. During the Revolution, the British offered a reward for his head. Applied for his Revolutionary War pension on 15 October, 1832 (New Jersey line # S6252, tracking # 90027768, date of search was Aug. 14 1998 at BYU. Call # E225.W55)
