Thomas C. Hungate moved to the territory of Nebraska when he was 22 years old. (1855) and settled on a farm near Cuming, NE

He helped lay out the town of Cuming City.
He moved to a farm near Herman in 1871 and farmed for 40 years in the Herman Township.

He retired from the farm in 1893 and moved into the village of Herman.

He was a lifelong Republican, a Baptist and a Mason.
