Richard Spence and brother John at first worked out on farms helping to clear the land after going to Canada. They bought land a few miles west of the hamlet later named Orangeville, Ontario.

Richard and son Thomas moved west to Saskatchewan and filed for homestead Land Grants on June 24, 1890.

Land Description: NE of section 20 - 16 - 19 W-2.
