3. JOHN2 BRADLEY (EDWARD1) was born Abt. 1782 in Hothersall, Ribchester parish, Lancashire, England, and died Abt. 1832 in Preston parish, Lancashire, England. He married ELLEN HODGSON January 09, 1815 in St. Wilfrid's Roman Catholic Church, Preston, Lancashire, daughter of JAMES HODGSON? and JANE PARK?. She was born July 22, 1793 in Preston parish, Lancashire, England, and died Abt. 1836 in Preston parish, Lancashire, England.

Notes for JOHN BRADLEY:
A John Bradley of "Trailes" [sic. Treales] is listed in the burial register of St. Wilfrid's (Preston) on February 22, 1835, age 54. It is possible that this is the same John Bradley. The baptisms of John Bradley and Ellen Hodgson's children occur in Preston at St. Wilfrid's from 1816 to 1827. Beginning in 1829 their children were baptized at St. Mary's in Lea, Lancashire. Apparently the family must have relocated between 1827 and 1829. Possibly this is when John's mother Elizabeth Hesmondhalgh Bradley died. If the family did relocate to the Treales area, it would make sense that they attended Mass in Lea, as this is where John's brother William was also residing.

Notes for ELLEN HODGSON:
An Ellen Hodgson is listed in the St. Wilfrid's Catholic church (Preston) baptismal registers as follows:
"July 22, 1793 Helen Hodgson dau of James & Jane. Sponsors: Robert Towers & Helen Park."
According to the "Census of the Catholic Congregation of Preston 1810 and 1820" by Reverend Joseph Dunn, Ellen Bradley was twenty-seven years old in 1820. This would fit with the above baptismal entry. However, she is not listed in the household of James and Jane Hodgson in the 1810 census, when she would have been seventeen years old, although she could have been residing elsewhere. The alternative is the Ellen Hodgson who was baptized in 1793 died by 1810 and was not the wife of John Bradley.
A James Hodgson and Jane Park were married at St. John's, Preston on September 10, 1792.
