Appeared in Levy, list of assessments for contributions towards the upkeep of the poor by those who could afford to pay, based on their income. In 1769, assessed at 6d. Quarter Sessions:Court Order Books, 1774:(reseacher) Be it remembered that on the 13th day of May in the 14th year of our Lord George III (1774)...Jame Toon of Syston...Frameworkknitter and John Sharpless and Richard Castors both of Barkby Thorpe...Grazier personally came before me Nicholas Simons Clerk one of the Justices...assigned to keep the Peace...and acknowledged themselves to owe to our said Lord the King...James Toon the sum of Twenty pounds...and the said John Sharpless and Richard Castors Ten pounds each...if the said James Toon shall make default of the condition underwritten The condition of this Recognizance is such, that if the above bounden James Toon shall personally appear at the next General Quarter Sessions...and ther abide such Order of Orders as shall be made concerning Bastards begotten and born out of lawful Matrimony concerning a Bastard Child begotten by him upon the Body of Hannah Kirk of Syston aforesaid Singlewoman...(etc).
