My interest in my family tree has stemmed from a recent discovery about the cricketing career of my Great Great Great Grandfather Tom Armitage. Thomas was a Mason by trade, however, he was a talented cricket player and by 1870 was playing as a professional cricketer for Keighley Cricket Club. He played 51 matches for Yorkshire CCC between 1872 and 1878. After the 1876 season he played in the first ever Test Match as a Lob Bowler in the 1876/77 tour of Australia.
By 1871 Thomas had married Mary E Marshall and had two children, Herbert and Hannah. In 1879 he became a publican at the Plough Inn, Sheffield. He later remarried and emigrated to America. He was a professional at Oxford Cricket Club in Philidelphia in 1886 and later became Groundsman at Pullman Cricket Club in Chicago in 1902. It was Pullman where he died in on 21 September 1922.

I would also like to find information about his Grandsons, Len Armitage and Tom Armitage, who were both soccer players. Len started his soccer career at Sheffield Wednesday before moving on to Leeds United, Wigan Borough, Stoke City, Rhyl, and Port Vale. Tom played soccer in the Navy before moving on to play for Sheffield Wednesday Reserves. Tragically he died on 30 December 1923 following an injury he received whilst playing Rotherham Town on Christmas Day that year.

If anyone could shed more light on the Armitage family I would be very grateful.
