My interest in my family tree has stemmed from a recent discovery about the cricketing career of my Great Great Great Grandfather Tom Armitage. Thomas was a Mason by trade, however, he was a talented cricket player and by 1870 was playing as a professional cricketer for Keighley Cricket Club. He played 51 matches for Yorkshire CCC between 1872 and 1878. After the 1876 season he played in the first ever Test Match as a Lob Bowler in the 1876/77 tour of Australia. |
