Notes for JOHN W. SMALL: Ethel Ann Small 92, of Brandon , SD died April 21, 1999 At Avera Mckennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. A mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m. Saturday April 24, at Risen Savior Catholic Church Brandon, SD. Burial was at St. Michael Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD. Ethel, daughter of Archie Ray and Martha (Fuhrman) Townsend was born on August 20, 1908 at Cherokee, Iowa where she grew up and graduated from High School. She was united in marriage to John Small on September 22, 1933 in Elk Point, SD. After her marriage the couple lived in Sioux City and then farmed near Cleghorn, Iowa for three years. They returned to Sioux City for a short time before moving to Sioux Falls in 1957. They moved to Brandon in 1960. Ethel worked as a window dresser for SS Kresge, Three Sister's and Martin's department stores for many years. She later worked for Mary's flowers in Brandon. She was affectionately called Grandma by everyone who knew her. She was devoted to her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by son: John Small, and his wife Anita of Sioux City, Iowa and Richard Small and his wife Jan of Roanoke, Virginia; daughter Mary Dickey and her husband, Bill of Brandon, SD; fifteen grand children; seventeen great grand children ; Sister Dona Jean Townsend, Cherokee, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends. |

Notes for DAROLD I. TOWNSEND: Obituary Darold I. Townsend Darold I. Townsend, 85, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday February 8, 1996 at his home at 730 W. Cherry St. Funeral services will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home, in Cherokee, Iowa with the Rev. Ray Krueger officiating. Burial will be at the the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at the funeral home today. Darold was born on January 7, 1911 in Cherokee county to Archie Ray and Martha Fuhrman Townsend. He was a farmer and a resident of Cherokee County all of his life. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and the I.O.O.F. Lodge. Survivors include two sisters: Mrs Ethel Small, Brandon, SD. and Dona Jean Townsend, Cherokee; also many nieces and nephews in the area. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Glen and Lloyd Townsend. 5-10-98 O.T. |
