"EVERY DAY IS A NEW BEGINNING"

Welcome to our Family Home Page. We are researching the following names : Townsend, Cottingham, Tewksbury, Beamish, Paddock, Pickering, Wood, Poole, Philips, Butler, Crosby, Freeman, Arnold, Hazard, Dillon, Anthony, Tripp, Groves, Potter, Sheldon, Sands (Sandys), Niles and Mohler.

I am particularly interested in Townsend information circa 1786 in the Barnstable MA area and the Southeast NY area. My "Brick Wall" was Stephen Townsend, the beginning of my particular branch of the tree, who married Mercy Crosby, daughter of Eleaser Crosby and Jemima Porter. Their son Isaac married Susan Butler probably around 1830. Fortunately I have been helped along by others and now have a fairly comprehensive single line back to John Townsend and his wife Elizabeth Montgomery who emigrated from England about 1645. I have recently been sent a copy of Stephen Townsend's will listing all 11 of their children. That information is in the report on this page.

I have added a number of old tin type pictures from our Family Bible but have no clue as to who most of the people are. I have indicated them as "Unknown". I do know that one of them is Mary Jane (Poole) Tewksbury, my Great, Great Grandmother. I also have one of Susan Butler. The rest are unknown. Please feel free to contact my regarding any of the above names .

Linda and I travelled through the North Eastern United States the summer of 2002 and visited a number of cemeteries doing what we affectionately call "The Graveyard Stomp". We took a number of pictures of Townsend and Cottingham gravestones. I have a good collection of photos from the Jerusalem Hill Cemetery at Litchfield NY (Townsend and Crosby) and others from the Evergreen Cemetery at Motley MN.(Townsend and Cottingham)

My current challenge is getting information on Lenor (my Great Grandfather) Townsend and his sister Emma. Emma married Thomas Groves and they had three boys; Cory, Earl and Carl. Evidently Thomas was killed in an accident in 1907. I have no information on any other possible siblings of Lenor and Emma. Their parents were Isaac Townsend and Susan Ann (Butler)Townsend. I am also working on finding information on my maternal Grandmother Rachel Wood who was evidently sent to Canada from England as a very young child under one of the programs at that time (similar to the Barnardo Children ). She is listed as a "domestic" in a farm home in Southeastern Saskatchewan at the age of 8 in the 1901 census. She had a sister, Amanda (whom my mother was named after) but I have no idea if she stayed in England or was sent to Canada or elsewhere.

I am presently working on a Family History Book (for our children and grandchildren) which I hope will be of interest. I have absolutely no intention of every having it published or printed but I thought it might be nice for our future families to read. I guess I just want my time to be proven valuable to someone other than myself.

The family photos are just some that I have run across and thought might be of interest to family members. I have added a few current family photos just for fun.

My Brother-in-Law David Pickering (who got me started in this hobby)has an very extensive library on the Beamish and Pickering families.

I have a fairly good selection regarding the Cottinghams (343 individuals) and Tewksburys and I am constantly getting more thanks to e-mail contacts. My Townsend information is also growing daily and includes 570 individuals at this point. I am more than willing to share information but I will not put my hard work on the internet to be captured and "sold" by anyone.

If you are interested, please contact me, I'd love to work with you.

Thank you for visiting our site.

Good Hunting!
Wayne Townsend
