This is a photo of Rufus Allen when he was trustee for the town of Cazenovia, Madison County, New York. He owned tanneries in Cazenovia before moving to Milwaukee, WI. in late 1840s where he opened (with his sons) the largest tannery in the U.S. at the time, Wisconsin Leather Company. He was married to Betsey Chandler.
