Welcome to our homepage.I have just recently began to research our family tree.I think it is important to know our ancestors and what they went through to get us to this point in time. For our ancestors are a part of us and who we are.I hope you enjoy what information I have been able to gather, and feel free to save anything you wish.First of all I want to share my deep regrets at losing two important people in my life.First was my maternal grandmother, Catherine Arka Clark Main. She was a very special to me and i deeply regret this loss,as do many others. She was everyhting a grandmother stood for.Someone to play with when you visit as a child, not tell mom when you were less than perfect, took me on long walks to pick berries and look for cows, and she was the one that taught me the Lords Prayer,at night while we lay in bed during one of my summer visits. She will truly be missed. The second, is the loss of her only son,and my uncle:Ralph Main.He served as a marine, and was very pround of this. His son has also followed and joined the navy.He was a kind, soft spoken, and very generous man.A good father, and loved his kids.he knew the importance of family. We lost both of these important people just a few mnths apart in 2000.
The Beatty name is found most often in the province of Ulster (Ireland) and is of the Scottish origin. Many Beatties migrated from Scotland to Ulster after the destruction of James 1st. They settled in Co. Fermanagh, where they remain common.
The Ulster-Scots chose the colony of Pennsylvania as their destination in the New World. When considering which colony to make their new homes in, the Ulster- Scots really had only limited choices.
The southern colonies were not very enticing with their slave labor and plantation system of agriculture.Maryland was established as a Roman Catholic colony,New York also did not welcome religious diversity. Of the choices between New England and Pennsylvania, the earliest immigrants had been made to feel unwelcome at Boston, the primary port of entry. The only colony that welcomed the Ulster- Scots was Pennsylvania.
Many of the Ulster-Scotts had to agree to indentured servitude in order to afford the voyage to America, and once freed of that obligation moved onward.there were also a large number of German families settling in Pennsylvania. The 2 groups chose farmlands in the Appalachian mountains, and they co-existed quite peacably together. The Ulster-Scotts preferred the quiet solitude of the Appalachians. The clarks are descendants of Abraham Clark, who signed the declaration of independence. You can find more info about this below.
