On December 23, 1834, Greenbury dies in Baltimore Co., MD, "intestate" (having no will). GT (GT Senior?) had delt with the Frost family before with his supposed daughter Michal and JT also purchased land in the same area…Mary the mother may have been living with one of them during that period possibly making her a widower? The deceased was the daughter of Mr. Greenbury Treakle, deceased, formerly of this District." Mary Virginia Treakle and Wm J. Watherman were married on April 25, 1850 according to the Register of the Anne Arundel Circuit, Methodist Protestant Church, 1830-1894. Brennan had sent me a copy of the Baltimore Sun, Friday > Morning, April 26, 1850, which states "MARRIED on Thursday, the 25th > instant, by Rev. B. H. Nadal, W. J. Waterman to Miss Mary V.Treakle, both > of this city. (Cincinnati papers will please copy.)"
Greenbury is able to buy land indicating he had available funds; check early tax records. Greenbury & Christopher are together indicating relationship. Is this Greenbury Senior? Greenbury is mobile and able to interact with the court system. Is this Greenbury Senior listed on the 1800 MD census? If he is 45 years old, then he has a birthyear of 1755, indicating that this Greenbury is the brother of Christopher Treakle, thus Greenbury Jr. Possibly church records might list more information on GT and family. Follow the tract of land back in time to find out when GT purchased 1021/2 acres of land--quite a bit of money needed for a Blacksmith to have earned. Marriage record for GT & Rachel? Possible follow up court records (1808) on Denton & GT for leased tavern. I have one listed as Gruuby with Males: 1 (+16), 0 (-16) and 1 Female. My notes also indicate there was a Greenby listed as well. Get copies of census to confirm. Have to reread Hobbs Lease…I think it says GT was living there not Denton Hobbs. First mention of relationship with Charles Carroll. Did GT pave the way for [his grandson?] James Treakle to own 400+ acres of Doughoregan Manor? Based on 1805 entry GT and Norwood/Hobbs GT had been living on the same property for 5 years (1 year prior to this transaction).   Is this Greenbury Senior? Greenbury Jr. born? Search for church, newspaper accounts of this union. Confirm spelling of GT's daughter. The prenup account appears after their married. Search records for info prior to marriage: Nov. 24, 1812: Court minutes & probate. Has Greenbury 1 (senior) died and therefore James Treakle (perhaps an uncle or brother) is handling affairs?     Farmer lists/unions? Slave taxes & registers? Follow the land records for Hammond's Discovery - GT only. I don't have original of this one…get it!   If this is a GT/Mary Vansant who are all the people? If this is the older GT not old enough per census notes When was the originial property purchased? Get this record. Missing ownership sale to GT duirng time frame 1765-1832 when he sold it to the Ellicott boys (grandsons of Andrew Ellicott, one of founders of Ellicott Mills) is this all the same land? Check for newspaper reporting of Greenbury's death; church account and death record. Check Administration records. WHERE IS HE BURIED? Most property accounted for is sold prior and after his death? Greenbury lived in Baltimore County not Anne Arundel. Home in Anne Arundel? What county(ies) did GT have property? Check county boundries. I know there is a very fine line during this period. I need to figure out where the Hammonds Discovery actually is. Need to find the reference which put it north of Doughoregan. (Very close to Good Range and Brothers Partnership!!!! The property he sold to the Ellicott brothers is on the East side of the Patsapco River right near Ellicott Mills. The river divides the counties. So what happened to these kids and their mother? More court records available? James Treakle obtained letters of administration de bonis non for Greenbury Treakle at the Orphan's Court of Baltimore County. Find this record. I thought it was to take over and purchase property not a release from.   Are GT's kids living with relatives or strangers? Why are the children not living with Treakle realitives? There is a strong connection to the Hobb family. Mary sells 50 acres of Hammond's Discovery in 1835 to Thomas Hobbs and then lives with him in 1850. What's up with this relationship? Which Mary is this: wife or mother of GT? Why isn't Mary living with her Norwood family, they were well off? Age for Mary A. 9 is too young to be daughter of GT. He died in 1834. She would have to be at around 16. I think this Mary is going to be the mother because the obit we had on a different Mary is younger Howard Gazette and General Advertiser Ellicotts Mills, Maryland Vol. II No. 1 Saturday January 26, 1850. On Monday morning, the 21st instant, after a short illness, Mrs. MARY TREAKLE, in the 71st year of her age. The deceased was for 30 years a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and we are happy to be able to say there is ground to trust that her last hours were calmed by the soothing of christian hope. "True, 'tis an awful thing to die, Twas even so to her; left the dark vale once trod, Heaven lifts its everlasting portals high, And bids the pure in heart behold their God." At 71 years of age, possible birthdate of 1779. Check census records to establish this person as Mary [Pitcher], wife of James Treakle.
