Gertrude was Born on a farm near Hobbs, MD Caroline Co. Her parents were Tenant Farmers and she lived where she was born until she left home after High School. She went to Oaks School near Hobbs for the first 7 yrs. and then to Caroline High School in Denton. After Completing School she went to Baltimore where she learned Millinery. Oakes School was home to the Ames Church in the 1800's

During WWII she worked for the Signal Core in Wishington DC. Her husbands Comanding officer in Panama recommended her for the job. She lived in an apartment house where FBI agents lived.
