Stephen Cole (son of James Cole, Jr. and Mary Rentfroe) was born 1758 in Ashpole Swamp, Bladen, North Carolina, and died 1798 in Clairborne, Mississippi. He married Jenny Ann Ellis on Abt. 1784 in Natchez District, Mississippi.

1798- Stephen Cole, a Spanish Grantee received 640 acres, Claim #1380 pm tje Big Black River in Claiborne county. He originally improved and actually cultivated it until his death 1798. John Cole, brother to stephen, appointed Guardian to his nieces and nephews: orphans and heirs of Stephen Cole, dec. The plantation is under the direction and management of the said, John Cole for the sole benefit and use of said, Orphans.
