Hello, my name is Scott Tribe. I currently reside in Wallaceburg Ontario, but I was born in Tillsonburg Ontario. I am researching both sides of my family, but my father's side of the family is a bit more difficult to find, which is why I'm spending more time on them. We are able to trace our particular line back to a Joseph Tribe. His birthplace appears to be Norwood, Surrey, Great Britain, but the date of birth is in some question. This same archive also suggests a different name for his father, but I'll get into that later. After Joseph, information seems to get less sketchy, as we know he was married to Charlotte Aslin and had 9 children - Joseph, William, George, Mary Jane, Henry John, James, Annie Eliza, Emily, Charlotte, Fanny, Jennie and Walter.
If you scroll down this page, you'll get to the links that show some interesting photos, an online book of the Tribe family, as well as an Internet Family Tree and some other things. For any questions/revisions etc.. please feel free to either contact me through my email address which is at the start of this page, or by ICQ - my # for ICQ is 1340078.

WILLIAM TRIBE LINE
I have been contacted in May of 2002 by Judy Newell (formal name Joan) , who is one daughter of Frank Tribe (son of William) and informed me of her Tribe roots. I have added her and her sister accrodingly into the tree.

GEORGE TRIBE
Feb 2000 - met with Paul Tribe, (one of George's grandsons) and his family. Got some minor revisions for his branch and thru Paul, was able to make contact with his brothers David, Howard, and Bill (or at least, Bill's wife Bonnie). Some more revisions came from them as a result. Paul and Augusta's hospitality was appreciated by me, and I enjoyed the visit. I hope the feeling was mutual. I also have been contacted by another member of the Tribe family who comes thru George's son Kenneth.. Will update as I get more info.
OLDRIDGE
Aug 2000 - Received corrections for the family of Wayne John Oldridge.. thanks Wayne!)

WHEN WAS JOSEPH BORN AND WHO WAS HIS PARENTS!!??
There is some question when Joseph's birthdate is, and who his parents are. As you'll see in the photo section, the marriage certificate says that Joseph's father was also named Joseph. However, I have found some other evidence that this might not be the case. A cousin of mine in England, David Tribe, first mentioned that he thought Joseph's father may have been named James and his mother Susannah. LDS records show a Joseph Tribe being christened in 1829 at a church which is in the Surrey Area. His parents are listed as James Tribe and Susannah. This would seem to go along with the workhouse photo (below) which lists a Joseph Tribe in the Surrey workhouses at the age of 12 in 1841, probably there due to his parents both dying when he was young. If James and Susannah are indeed Joseph's parents, the LDS lists 2 other children -John and Susanna - for this pair. Both are listed as being christened in 1825 within a month of each other. Is it possible these were twins? Trying to find if these 2 survived to adulthood and had descendants may be the key to unlocking the mystery of who Joseph's father is and who the father is related to. I've updated the Internet tree to reflect this possible family of Joseph.

Family Photos

  • Joseph Tribe - Charlotte Aslin Marriage Cert. (94 KB)
A scanned picture of Joseph Tribe and Charlotte Aslin's marriage certificate. An interesting bit of info about Joseph and a clue to Joseph's life.(Thanks to David Tribe in England for sending me this)
  • Norwood WorkHouse Parish of Lambeth - Joseph Tribe (135 KB)
A poor copy of an 1841 census for the Norwood Workhouse in Surrey. Joseph Tribe appears 6 up from the bottom. It may be our young Joseph taken in due to mother and father dying when he was young. His age is listed as 12 and his occupation as a shoemaker. (Thanks again to David Tribe of England)
