Jacob P. Trout, born in 1830, and Elizabeth "Betsy" Milledge, born in May of 1832, were married in Allen County, Indiana on 1/26/1850. The 1850 Allen County Indiana census shows them living next door to Andrew "Jackson" Trout, born in 1828, and his wife Mary, born about 1831. This census shows all four as born in Ohio. Further research has shown that Andrew was born on November 18, 1828 in Miami County, Ohio. He was the son of Elizabeth (Platter) Trout who had married Jacob Trout, the eldest son of George W. Trout and his wife, Margaret Ziegler, of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Jacob and Betsy started their family in Indiana: George Washington was born in January of 1851. Andrew J. was born in 1855. Land Patent Certificates 25875 and 25794 dated 5/15/1857 show Jacob P. Trout bought land near Mineral Point in Iowa County, Wisconsin totaling 80 acres. That is where their next two children were born: Sarah Ellen was born May 15, 1857. Martha "Matty" was born in about 1861. Albert "Jacob", their fifth child, was born in either Wisconsin or Indiana about 1862. Betsy's brother, John Milledge, had married Mary Anne Garvey in February 13, 1859 and on July 8 that same year Harrison Bennett married her sister Susannah, both in Pulaski, Iowa County, Wisconsin. John and Harrison fought alongside Jacob for the Union Army during the American Civil War.Sadly, Jacob died during the war from illness leaving Betsy to raise their five children alone. On January 6, 1870, Betsy Milledge Trout married George Buck in Boone County, Illinois. Betsy and George Buck were the parents of 3 children before George died, leaving Betsy a widow again by 1880. Emma was born about 1871, Nelson was born March 16, 1874, and Edward was born in March of 1876, most likely in McHenry County, Illinois where the newlywed Mr. and Mrs. Buck lived at the time of the 1870 census and where Betsy Buck was enumerated with her children in 1880. Jacob and Betsy's son George W. Trout married Elizabeth Ratfield in Boone County, Illinois on October 12, 1874. They raised their children, Arthur Melvin, Alfred Henry, George Washington and Mary Frances "Fannie" in the Chicago area. Arthur, his sister "Fannie" and their spouses are buried in Cook County, Illinois with their parents. Alfred is buried in a different cemetery in Cook County with his widow and 3 of their 5 children. Arthur is in our direct line. We did not know about Alfred or George W. until very recently. You will discover more about this family and those who married into it by visiting Trout-Tracks.com.
