Jacob Hinkle was Driven Here Because of Anti Slavery Views

Dies at New Carlisle

After living for nearly half a century in Ohio, his adopted home, Jacob Hinkle, aged farmer and resident of New Carlisle died

Sunday noon at his home. He had been severely ill for 3 weeks. Convulsions was the cause of his death. He was 76 years

old.

Mr. Hinkle was born in West Virginia but at the age of 32 moved to Missouri during the war. The Missourians, then as now,

had to be shown. He was an anti-slavery man, and he had no more moved into the state when he was driven out because of his

feelings on the question. He then came to Ohio and settled at New Carlisle where he lived and reared a family until the

time of his death.

Mr. Hinkle leaves a widow to morn his loss, also 4 children who are: John, William, and George Hinkle and Mrs. Mary Ebersole.

The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 with services in the Dunkard Church at New Carlisle. All friends are

invited. The burial will be made in the New Carlisle Cemetery.

In searching for death certificate, came across court record instead of a will - no will was found, and the widow was a 2nd

wife, Emma Underwood, who received all property belonging to her husband, or was paid for all property taken by the children

Mrs. Stella HINKLE. New Carlisle - Mrs. Stella HINKLE, 68, of 93 W. Clark st., North Hampton, died in her residence at

7 p.m. Sunday following a lengthy illness. Mrs. HINKLE, widow of George F. HINKLE who died in February 1952, was a member

of the Liberty Pilgrim Holiness Church. She was born in Pike Township, Clark County, Dec. 22, 1891, the daughter of

Samuel I. and Minnie BOTKIN SIGLER. Survivors are two sons Charles of Springfield, Route 3, and Samuel HINKLE of

New Carlisle, Route 2; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth JONES of Bradford, O., and Mrs. Mildred HARTMAN of North Hampton;

two brothers, Millard of New Carlisle, Route 2, and Charles SIGLER of New Carlisle, Route 3; a sister, Mrs. Wesley GRIMM

of New Carlisle, Route 3; and 13 grandchildren. Her body was taken to the Trostel funeral home in New Carlisle. Services

will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Liberty Pilgrim Holiness Church near New Carlisle with Rev. M. L. Bogard

officiating. Burial will be in the New Carlisle cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday and at

the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
