WADE:      Once more the dark angel of death has claimed a victim, and another mother in Israel has gone. Elizabeth Anne Wade departed this life at her old home near Mt. Tabor, Washington Co., IN, Sunday, May 28, 1899, at 10:00 p.m. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Anne Beck. She was born near Beck's Mill, Washington Co., IN October 2, 1822, being 76 years, 7 months and 6 days old at the time of her death. She was married to Elijah B. Wade on the 27th day of December 1844. (This may be incorrect)

To their union were born 9 children, 6 girls and 3 boys, of whom 6 are living to mourn their loss. Deceased had lived a widow for many years, making her home the greater part of the time with her son, Bro. S.D. Wade at which place she died. Her husband died Oct 17, 1864. She was a kind and loving mother and a devoted Christian, having been in the service of the Master for over 60 years. When quite young in life she obeyed the Savior in the institution of baptism under the labors of Eld. John Wright at Old Blue River Church of Christ. Soon after her marriage, she took membership with the Church of Christ at Mt. Tabor and remained a member of that congregation until death.

She died holding fast the faith; not having denied His name, Sister Wade had been an invalid for more than 20 years, hence was a great sufferer. She bore her afflictions with a calm resignation and patient endurance. As she was afflicted with heart trouble, it was known for some time that she could not recover, hence all was done that could be by neighbors, friends and relatives to make her last days here on earth as pleasant as possible.

The remains were taken to Mt. Tabor cemetery for interment. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.

            ELIZABETH ANN (BECK) WADE
The death angel has once more made its visit and called home the soul of our oldest, and most respected mothers, Elizabeth Anne Wade. She died at 10:00 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 1899, after being an invalid and suffering for many months. The deceased was born near Beck's Mill Oct. 2, 1822, being 76 years, 7 months of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Wade was the oldest child of Andrew M. and Susan A. Beck, there being thirteen children in the family. She was married to Elijah B. Wade Dec. 27, 1844. From this union were born nine children - Sarah Ellen, Andrew Milton, Mary Matilda, John B., Smith Devin, Virginia Adaline, Susan Elizabeth, Rosa Belle and Martha Anne. Six of them are living to mourn their loss - three, one son and two daughters having gone before. Her husband died Oct 17, 1864, leaving her a widow many years. She has lived at the old home just south of Smedley most of the time since her marriage. For short periods she had resided at different places in Lawrence and Martin counties. She spent her declining years among her children, making her home with her son at the old place.

She was a member of the Church of Christ, having made the confession and was baptized under the labors of Elder John Wright at Old Blue River more than 60 years ago. She has ever since obeyed her Master and lived the life of a true Christian wife and mother. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need and will be remembered far and near for her administrations of kindness, comfort and love. Her life was such that she well have said, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, henceforth, there is a crown of righteousness laid up for me."

She was laid to rest on the afternoon of the 29th, in the cemetery at Mt. Tabor. The family has they sympathy of the entire community.

Mrs. Elizabeth Wade died at the home of her son, S. D. Wade, May 28, in her 77th year of heart trouble. She had been a sufferer for months but bore her afflictions with Christian patience and hope. She was a member of the church at this place for a number of years, a devout Christian and a kind and loving mother. She leaves six children and many relatives to mourn her departure. She was the widow of Elijah Wade who has been dead about thirty-five years. She requested that Elder B. F. Martin conduct the funeral but from some cause Mr. Martin failed to be present. The remains were laid away in the Mt. Tabor cemetery the following day.
