| After "playing" with Family Tree for almost 6 years, now I am ready to get serious. Fortunately for me, I have had ancestors who kept pretty good records. I definitely did not have to start at the bottom, but there are many holes to be filled. That was the project marked "Some Day". Well, some day is here. And I am going to just forge ahead, make all kinds of mistakes, and learn a lot, most of it the hard way! I am Virginia Katherine Johnston Tucker, born in Columbia, Missouri in Boone County. It was always my understanding that the Johnston family as well as my Mother's family, the Ogg family from Richmond, Missouri, were originally from Scotland. Now there is nothing wrong with Scotland! I can picture my sister being Scottish, I can picture my brother being Scottish....but I could never picture ME being Scottish. Then one day we discovered a tape that was made by a reporter for one of the newspapers in Columbia, Mo. It was an interview with my Grandfather, William Ambrose Johnston. During the conversation with the reporter, he casually remarked that his mother's family was from Italy. Suddenly the light came on! That is who I am! I'm Italian! I feel Italian! I look Italian! I love Italian! So, now my quest is to find my Italian Connection! All of those record keeping ancestors of mine never mention Italy! On this line, I start from scratch. I know the name.... Este I know the region....Lake Como in the Northern Lakes region of Italy |
