This page, launched Sept. 21, 1998, is an effort to reconstruct the history of the Tuell, Frost, Victria and Norvill families who converged in southern Oklahoma in the early 1900s.
The Frost family arrived in Oklahoma Indian Territory sometime around the 1890s. Departing from St. Louis, Dr. Thomas Joshua Frost and his wife Virginia Ann White staked claims during two of the Oklahoma land runs. The latter was in an Irish settlement named Erin Springs (near Lindsay, in Garvin County). One of Dr. Frost's daughters, Mazie Cecil Frost, married Henry Offord Tuell around 1916. He died in a flu epidemic in 1918, leaving his wife and one son, Henry Offord Tuell Jr. - my father.
The parents of Henry Tuell Sr., James R. Tuell and Mary Elizabeth Morris, apparently were born in Georgia. They married in Washington County Arkansas in 1889, before moving to Oklahoma Indian Territory. Marriage records show more Tuells in Washington County Arkansas, but I've not yet been able to make any connections.
Little is known about the Victria family - my mother's side of the tree. Family stories have them immigrating from France, settling first on the southeast coast, probably Georgia. They eventually moved inland to Oklahoma. Four Victria brothers lived in southern Oklahoma and northern Texas. One, Carl Lewis Victria married my maternal grandmother, Cora Norvill, in 1907 in Chickasha, Okla. They farmed near Bradley, in Grady County. The Novills apparently moved to Oklahoma from Pisguah, Alabama.
