Searching surnames from my Husband's Family: Tupker, Tuepker, Tipker, Topker, Toepker, Lamb, Gausmann, Gaussman, Gassman, Gazman, Brown, Hay, Clough, Schnebly, Schneider
The 3rd great grandfather of my husband was Gerhard Heinrich Tupker Sr. who came to America Jan 14, 1838, with his second wife, Catherine Dickmann and the 6 children from Gerhard's first marriage to Wilhelmina (Mina) Gausmann. Also on the ship were Wilelmina's father, Herman Heinrich Gausmann, his wife, Mary Catherine Meyer Gausmann and three younger daughers, Mary, Louisa and Charlotte.
Herman Heinrich, George William, Johann Heinrich, Catherine Louisa, Adolf, and Johann Friedrick were the first 6 children whose parents were Gerhard and Wilhelmina.
Mina died in Mettingen and Gerard remarried to a Catherine M. (aka. Anna or Annie) Dickmann before they came over and had 6 more children
Sophia, Johann Heinrich (died as infant), Gerhard Heinrich Jr., Adolf Ludwig (or Louis), Eliza, and Berhard Heinrich.
Sophia was born in 1838 and christened at Frieden's Church in St. Charles, St. Charles Co, MO. The rest of the children of Gerhard and Catherine Dickmann Tupker were christened at Femme Osage in St. Charles Co. The Tupker family settled first in an area of St. Charles Co, Mo called Femme Osage. Gerhard and his family joined his brother, Jurgen Heinrich Tupker, b 1801, wife, Elizabeth Gausmann Tupker (sister of Wilhelmina)and their children who came over to the US through the port of New York, Castle Garden in 1834. By 1840, Gerhard lived in Warren Co,Mo with his family.
The family name, TUPKER, has been more contemporarily spelled Tuepker by many branches of the family, but our line from Gerhard still spells it Tupker. In old church records in Germany, spellings were most often Tupker, but very frequently also variant of Tubker and Tubiker.
Gerhard Tupker, born 1798 and christened in Ibbenburen, was the son of Johann Heinrich Tupker and Christina Konning (or probably also spelled Koenig). Their other children were Johann Heinrich, the oldest, Jurgen Heinrich, who was born in Mettingen and died as an infant, Jurgen Heinrich, b 1801 Mettingen and a daughter, Catherine who married a Hunefeldt/Hunefeld.
