| I am researching my family that stems Martha Jackson and Daniel Simmons. Sometime during the early to mid 1800s, a ship set sail for America. Its cargo was captive Africans. It could have left port from Ghana, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, enin, Togg, or Gambia. We do not know the name of this ship, or its exact origin, but we do know it eventually docked in Savannah, GA. We do not know her name when she was dragged on board, but we do know she was called Lydia when she arrived in America. We do not know how long she remained in Savannah, but we do know she was eventually sold to the Pepper's Plantation (somewhere between Pickens and Richland) in Holme County, Mississippi. While Lydia was in Mississippi, she gave birth to three daughters, twins Mary and Martha, and Maggie. I am told that Daniel was part Choctaw. He was a tall, light-skinned man. The estimated time of Martha's birth was 1883. Martha Jackson and Daniel Simmons had several children - Julia, Ollie, Bessie, Clara, Lela, Blair, John Will, Willie Ed, and Benjamin. There are possibly others. If anyone knows any information on this family, please send me an e-mail. |
