Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania in 1938. Looking for ancestors of the Root's, Singleton's, Tutokey's and McCartney's. Most of the familys lived in the North East Pa. to Greenwood Furnace. Some had migrated to California, Maryland, and etc. Most interested in the parents of Ida May Singleton. Ida had eight siblings, five brothers and three sisters. Came from the Greenwood Furnace area of Pa. Ida was born on May 2, 1875 and died in 1960. She married William Singleton and had 13 children. They lived on Route 2, Bellwood, Pa. Great grandfather William was a black smith. Lemuel Root aquired 300 acres of land through a land warrant in 1812 a Revoluntionary War soldier, married Mary Magdalena Schmit Root, moved his family on the farm near Antis in about 1809 from Frederick, MD. The Root's lived and farmed at the homestead at Roots Crossing, in Bellwood, Pa. They had 10 children, one which was my grandfather Alva Clair Root, which went by Clair and worked for the Pa. Railroad for 38 and a half years. Born on April 23, 1893 and died Jan. 23, 1981. Claire married Clarinda Blanche Singleton and were parents of three children. Daughter, Ella Mae Root McCartney, Weston, son, Eugene Root married Helen Nieswonger, and daughter Thelma Louise Root Burkholder. None living. The Tutokey's spell their names different ways, Tutokey, Tutoky, Tutokie. Both grandparents came from Czeckaslvakia. Settled in Phillipsburg, Hawk Run,Pa. area.
