ARRET DIRCKSEN CROESEN (KROESEN), SR.:
The Crusen or Cruser (also spelled Cruisen, Cruiser, Cruise, etc.) family is descended from Garret Dircksen Croesen (Kroesen), who emigrated from the Netherlands to the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam by the mid-seventeenth century.

It is said that Garret Dircksen Croesen came from Wynschoten or Nirm Shoten in (the province of) Groningen. He married Neeltje Jans, October 30, 1661, and is recorded as a member of the Reformed Dutch Church of Breuckelen (Brooklyn) in the same year. He owned land in Breuckelen and was recorded on the assessment rolls of Brooklyn in the years 1675 and 1676. In the same year, Sir Edward Andross granted him a patent for 160 acres on Staten Island, where he moved to. The Croesen family for years was one of the prominent families in the Dutch settlement on the north shore of the island.
