Charles Oalmann and Julia Martens of New Orleans, Louisiana

Charles Oalmann and Julia Martens were my maternal great grandparents. I am hoping to put together my maternal family history, including related families. This is a work in progress....

Ernst"Ulman" was located living in the 3rd ward of New Orleans, La. August 26th, 1850. Ernst was born in Germany. He was 48 yrs old and was a shoemaker. His real estate was valued at $700. In 1850 his family consisted of his 38 yr old wife, Sophy who was also born in Germany;their daughter, Louisa, who was 14 at he time; 10 yr old Louis, 8 yr. old Herman, 5 yr. old Sophy, and 1 & 1/2 yr. old Charles. This census says all the children were born in LA, however, later census show that they arrived in the US in 1845. Therefore, only Charles and possibly Sophy could have been born in Louisiana.
