Civil and Federal Service
Stephen Sliss was a foreman at Brooklyn Navy Yard for many years until it closed and then went to Governor's Island until he retired with 29 years and 11 months of combined military and civil service with the federal government. He served as a rifleman in Holland and Germany with the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment and spent ten months overseas, including 4 1/2 months as a prisoner of the Germans. He also had three years of active service with the infantry from 1935 to 1938.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 7069 since 1969.
He was employed by the Bendix Aviation Corporation , Brooklyn NY for 3 1/2 years from 1940 - 1944. He assisted with the repair of electric motor generators and transformers.

His Passing
Stephen Sliss passed away from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He incurred a few heart attacks in his final years. His funeral was held at the Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah, NY. His granddaughter Christine gave the yuligy.
