This immediate branch of the McQueen family was a citizen of Tipperary County Ireland and Charles McQueen was a private in the English Army and was an honored magistrate of his native county. According to the ruling of the English Parliament no one of Scotch or Irish name could rank as a commissioned officer. So in order to receive this commission Charles McQueen dropped the prefix "Mc" from his original name and became an English Officer under the name of just Charles Queen. He was said to be a man of commanding presence, courage and discretion in the execution of his official trust and by virtue of his official position, and by an act of the English Parliament, he was entitled to enter free of cost 1400 acres of land in the Virginia Colony of America. A private citizen or a soldier of England could only enter 400 acres, and this was how we got the name of just Queen. There was quite a number of emigrants that came to America from Ireland by the name of McQueen and McQuinn and they said there are no people in Ireland by the name of just Queen. It was for the purpose of availing himself of entering 1400 acres of land in America that caused Charles Queen and his young wife to come to America in or near 1750 and they settled in a section of the Virginia Colony, West Augusta, Virginia, which later became Harrison County West Virginia and located a homestead on the waters of Gnatty Creek at the mouth of Peeltree, a stream 4 miles in length. This came about before the Revolutionary War.

There was a son born in 1752 to Charles Queen and his wife while they were in America and he was given the name Charles Queen Jr. After two years In the colonies (1754) Charles Queen Sr. took his wife and young son back to England where he soon died. It was the law of that country that the parents of children had to give their sons a trade of some kind so the mother of Charles Queen Jr. bound him out to the weaver's trade. When he had served his time at his trade (apprenticeship) he had to serve time in the English Army. When he was a "free man" and had reached the age of legal responsibility he longed to see the land of his birth in America so in or near 1770 he returned and took possession of the old homestead on Gnatty Greek to found our Queen line in Virginia, he was not married at this time.

In 1773 he married the daughter of Benjamin Haley, May Haley, born in 1755 and they had six sons and three daughters. John J. 1776, Armstead 1777, Levi 1779, Cornelius 1782-1866, Charles 1790, William (?), Sarah H. 1780, Mary 1783-1828, Elizabeth 1786. Charles Queen Jr. died after 1830 (records show he was living with son Willuam in Harrison County West Virginia in 1830). He was buried on the old homestead in an orchard east of the Clarksburg and Buckhannon Highway, opposite the Ira Post Mansion. Armstead was married twice. First to Sarah Norman in 1795 and then to Minnie Jett in 1812. He lived on 180 acres of the old homestead near the mouth of Peel Tree then migrated to Rooting Creek. He reared 11 children. Levi married Catherine Louther 1-1-1796 and lived and died on a part of the old homestead and reared 10 children. Sarah H. married William Gregory on 2-15-1811 and settled on Hacker's Creek. Cornelius married Mrs. Mary Ann Race and died near the old homestead at the age of 84. Mary married Moses Bennett and settled on Hacker's Creek. Elizabeth married Rezin Harvey and settled on Peck's Run. Williams married Margaret Gregory on 3-26-1811. He lived and died on the old homestead, John J. and Charles migrated to Ohio. Charles was never married and died in Ohio.

The 21 children of Armstead and Levi all married and settled on Peel Tree, a stream four miles in length and Rooting Creek, a stream seven miles in length, and the surrounding sections of the rich fertile part of the Virginia Colony. John J. Queen was born in Hampshire County West Virginia in 1776 and was married to Elizabeth White on 1-11-1799. She was born in 1778 in Allegany County Maryland and died before 1860 in Missouri. She was the daughter of William White born in 1748. He resided in Allegany County, Maryland then moved to Harrison County West Virginia and according to a deed was still alive in 1828. John J. Queen and Elizabeth White Queen had five sons and one daughter. William W. born 1800 married Rebecca Ann Brooks in 1828. Samuel born 1812 married Sarah Sharp in 1829. Elijah married Barbary Goddard in 1835. John W. born 1811 married Phoebe Pearsall in 1838. Elizabeth married John Kesterson in 1836. Cornelius W. born 1809 married Nancy Caster (or Castor) 7-23-1839.

Since this is our branch of the Queens we bring in Nancy's ancestors. She was the granddaughter of James Caster who was born in Wales in 1747. He first settled in Harrison County West Virginia. In 1832, at age 85, he moved to Vinton County Ohio where he died 4-18-1836 age 89. Nancy Castor Queen 5 grandmother was Druzilla (?) born in 1755 in Wales and died in Vinton County Ohio 7-17-1848 age 93 years 3 months and 15 days. They are both buried in the Raddiff Cemetery. James and Druzilla Caster were the parents of David died 1821, Lewis 1778-1852, Samuel born 1801, Margaret, James Hezekiah Nancy's father. James Hezekiah Caster born 1780 died 1876 lived and died in Harrison County West Virginia (age 96). On 8-24-1811 he married Mary Davis in Harrison County and they had 10 children. James, Nancy, William, Lewis, Druzilla, David, Malinda, Elizabeth, Mary and Margaret. James Lewis Castor 5-20-1826 died 10-4-1863 and Is buried in Vicksburg National Cemetery Section 1 Grave 504. Nancy married Cornelius W. Queen. Cornelius W. Queen 1809-11-19-1870 was born in Harrison County West Va. He married Nancy Castor born 1820-1890, also born in Harrison County. They were married 7-23-1839 in Pomeroy, Ohio. They had ten children, all born in Miegs County Ohio. Harrison 1841, Julia Ann 1842, Susannah 1844, James Ripley 1845, Johnson Miles 1847, Lewis Castor 1848, Esther A. 1853, Dru2illa 1855, Hezekiah 1859, Steven A. Douglas Queen 1862.

It is not clear how or when the Queens came to Missouri. Elizabeth White Queen (Cornelius's mother) showed up in his household in the Miegs County Ohio census of 1850 then we find records where she died in Missouri around 1860. According to land records in Washington County Missouri Cornelius W. Queen purchased 204.20 acres of ground from the heirs of Moses Bales (Survey #2050) on 11-1-1870 for $2042.00. On 11-6-1870 he willed this property to Hezekiah Queen and Steven A. Douglas Queen. This took place just a few days prior to his death on 11-19-1870. On August 6, 1889 Steven A. Douglas Queen, single at that time, sold his part of the property to Hezekiah Queen for 100.00. He returned to Ohio to live. On 1-21-1895 Hezekiah Queen sold the property to James 0. Smith for $1000.00. This property is near the Methodist Cemeteries. (west of Highway 21 and North of Highway C) All of the children of Cornelius and Nancy lived in Washington and adjoining counties except Stephen A. Douglas Queen. Cornelius and Nancy are buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Caledonia. Esther A. is also buried there. Druzilla Queen 4.17-1855-5-26-1921 married Andrew Perry Wright born in Caledonia 8-24-1852 and died 5-20-1922 at Steelville, Mo. They are buried at Steelville. They had 7 children. Steven born 9-13-1877 at Caledonia married Ellen Thornton. Siras born 10-28-1878, Caledonia. James Andrew 3-15-1883 Steelville married Laura Sarah Strawn. Twins Thomas and John born 4-17.1885 Steelville. Tom's first wife Rena 1895-1916. Second wife Myrtle McCoy. Edwin (Edward) Wright born 11-21-1892 married Esther (Hattie) Osborn. Lena Wright born 9-21-1898, Steelville, married Seldon Ives. Harrison Queen 9-29-1841-9-14-1904 was married to Jane Westfall on 12-12-1860 by John McKinstry, Justice of Peace in Miegs County Ohio. They had a daughter, Cynthia born In 1862. They were divorced and Jane resumed her maiden name and she and Cynthia lived near her parents in Columbia Township (Megis County) until she married William A. Rife and had several children by him. Harrison Queen was a Corporal In the 194th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry serving in Washington D.C., where he was discharged in 1865.

During his boyhood days he was a good friend of William McKinley, attending the same school, sharing the same seat. William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States 1897 to 1902 when he was assassinated. Harrison Queen married Mary Martha Bean, daughter of Harrison Bean, and they had 5 children. Harrison Queen received a land grant for 49.9 acres of land in Washington County. (Homestead Certificate #567 Application 1189). This was from the General Land Office at Ironton, Mo. dated 11-5-1874 signed by President Ulyssus S. Grant. This is the land that he built their home on. The log house and smoke house is still standing along Highway C between Belgrade and Caledonia. This is the vicinity Cornelius and Nancy lived. The house remained in the Queen family for over 100 years.

The children of Harrison and Martha Queen were: Watson, Minnie Isabelle, Lovernia Olive, Mary Ellen and Ida.

James Ripley Queen was born in Meigs County Ohio between 1841 and 1848. During the Civil War he served in Company D, 194th Infantry Ohio. He died in 1880. He was one of the Queen boys that came to Missouri first. He married Mary Jane Baker (Polly). No information on her. James Ripley was also known as Elisha. They lived in Belleview Valley and had 2 children: Catherine "Katie" Queen and James Henry Queen.

Bobby Clarence Queen 7-23-1939 married Myrna Jean Roberts and they have Herbert 5-13-1963. Judy Helena Queen 5-18-1945 married Henry Lawrence Perry Junior. They have 5 children: Henry L. Perry III 6-14-1968, Alma Jean 3-22-1974, Buffee Diana 8-6-1972. Jody Lee 8-10-1971, Addie Alice 2-5-1970. They had one son Roy Nelson. Roy divorced and married Betty (deceased) and they had Jim Queen and Wayne Queen. Roy L. Queen was a musician and was on various radio and television stations. Blanche E. Queen 1-21-1916 married Robert Hollycross born 7-17-1916. They had 2 children: Joyce and Edward. Joyce Hollycross 7-15-1939 married Emil Heimos born 4-24-1939 and they had 3 children: Kenith L. Heimos 7-9-1960, David L. Heimos 8-22-1962 and Diana L. Heimos 8-14-1974. Edward B. Hollycross 5-23-1947 married Judi Long born 11-11-1946. They had 3 children: Edward B. Hollycross II 9-9-1974, Michelle L. Hollycross 11-29-1976 and Elizabeth A. Hollycross 4-1-1979. Emma M. Queen 10-2-1918 married Bill Doran. They had 1 son Bill born 1942 died 1-1980. Drusella V. Queen 3-24-1921 married Amiel Moore. They had 2 sons Fred and Jim Moore. Edward C. Queen 9-19-1923 was killed in World War II in 1944 at the age of 21. Edna Q. Queen 10-17-1927 died 12-25-1979 married Daniel Henley and they had 3 children: Gary, Nancy and Joyce. Gary has a son Jerry. Nancy married a Fletcher and has a daughter Amy. Joyce is single.

Johnson Miles Queen was the fourth son of Cornelius and Nancy Queen. We have no information on him except that he had a daughter that married an Amsberry. She had 2 children: Etta and Lee. Etta Amsberry married William Petty and they had 2 children: Ora and Miles. Ora Petty married Fred Hull and they had a son William. All three are now deceased. Miles Petty remained single and is also deceased.

Julia Ann Queen was born in Meigs County Ohio and married Robert D. Babel. He served in the Ohio Infantry during the Civil War. Lewis Castor Queen was the third son of Cornelius and Nancy Queen. He was born in Pomroy, Meigs County, Ohio, October 10, 1848. He enlisted in the Civil War February 29, 1864. He was in Co. I, 53rd Regiment of Ohio Infantry. He was 'water boy" and his job was to swab the barrel of the cannon to cool It after each firing. He was in General Sherman's regiment and identified himself in pictures of "Shermans' March to the Sea". He was discharged August 11,1865 at Little Rock, Arkansas. Authenticated by original discharge. Also a tin-type picture of him in uniform. He returned to Ohio after being discharged from the army but moved west with his family and settled in Missouri. On November 20, 1873 he was married to Emily Josephine Akers, born September 24, 1857 in Lynchburg, Virginia, the daughter of Lynch and Amanda Akers born in Germany in 1806. Lynch died in 1871 and Amanda Wilson Akers died 1872 and are both buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery. Lewis Castor, also known as Luke, and Emily Josephine settled on a farm at the forks of the road leading to the old Pleasant Grove Schoolhouse and the Pleasant Grove Church. However, the church was not there then and church was held in private homes and the schoolhouse. The farm lay on both sides of the road and the log house was directly east, in the same yard, as the house that is still standing, and known as the L. F. Hull farm. The Hull family purchased this farm from the Queens and they built a new house about ½ mile east, toward Caledonia, known now as the Jess Duncan farm. Lewis C. and Emily J. were the parents of eight children: Munson, Charles, Nancy M., John W., Ava Ann, Janie Alice, Creed T. and George. Nancy M. was born 8-14-1880 and died 10-7-1881. George born 4-9-1892 and died 4-9-1892. Lewis Castor was a farmer and a Baptist Preacher. He died June 4,1904. Emily Josephine died January 26, 1918 and they are buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Caledonia, Mo. I Munson Queen was born 11-15-1874. He married Nora Fortune born 1-25-1870, December 25, 1895, a neighbor. They lived in Caledonia all their married life. Their son James Lewis and his wife Nell built a new house on the spot in 1973. Munson was a builder and carpenter as well as a landowner. The tract of virgin timber along Weber Road is still in this family. Munson was a deeply religious man, being a faithful worker in the Presbyterian Church of Caledonia as well as other worthwhile endeavors. Munson and Nora had five children: Thomas Frank, James Lewis, Joseph T., Nellie May and Ralph Munson. Thomas Frank was born 12-10-1896 and died Jan. 1963 married Lucille Walton died 1974. 762 Alberta Lucille Roberts who had one daughter Sharron Roberts Uhlemann. Elsie Marie married Warren Franks and has no children. James Lewis Queen was born 9-5-1898 died 11-3-1976 married Nell Wallace and they had one daughter Gertrude. Gertrude Queen married James Rearden and they had two sons James Anderson and Patrick Dwight. James Anderson Rearden married Elizabeth and two children Jacqulin Ann and William Anthony. Patrick Dwight married Linda and had one daughter Sherri Lenore. Joseph T. Queen was born 5-2-1900 and died 1-23-1954. Married but no children. Nellie May was born in 1902 and died in 1903 age 14 months. Ralph Munson Queen born 11-12-1911 married Prudence Trask they had one son Ralph. Ralph Munson later married Frances Rapisardio, Munson died 3-21-1917 at age 44 and Nora died 4-25-1951 at age 81. Charles Henry Queen born 8-15-1877 died 5-4-1944 age 66. He was married to a neighbor girl, Docia Fortune born 12-5.1879 died 12-21-1903 age 24. They had one daughter Lena Myrtle born 1-27-1902 died 1-13-1905. Charles "Charlie" lived and worked In the area all his life. He worked for years in the Irondale Mill. He married Flora Ann Buxton of Irondale born 7-14-1880 died 2-28-1953 and they had three children: Ollie Gay, Alice Esther and Clyde William. Ollie Gay Queen born 9-21-1912 married Orville Wesley Noe born 5-4-1906 they had three children. Richard Charles, Esther Bernice and Sanford Louis. Sharron LaChance is single. Clyde William Queen born 3-30-1918 died 10-26-1976 married Lulu Ketcherside born 8-1-1914. No children. John William Queen born 3-15-1883 died 8-13-1940 of a heart attack. He was born on the family farm at Pleasant Grove. He attended the St. Louis Worlds' Fair in 1904 and brought a memento to his sisters, Ava and Janie. The paper weight he brought Janie is still in the family. On September 13, 1913 he married Fairy May Hull born 3-5-1894, the daughter of Lewis Franklin and Augusta (Gusty) Hull. Their first home was a little two room house directly across the road from the Pleasant Grove Church. They were the parents of 7 children. Gladys Loraine, Agnes Pauline, August Lyman, Gladys L. Queen was born 10-1-1914 died 3-17-1979 of a heart attack. She married Harry David Patterson born 7-2-1912 and they had one son Harry David Patterson, Jr. "D" born 3-29-1940. Agnes P. Queen born 10-18-1916 married Carson Otto Smith born 9-13-1914 died 10-25-1961. They had four daughters: Judith Ann, Karen Sue, Mary Jane and Rebecca Lynn. Judith A. On May 15, 1915 he married to Hallie Effie Hays born 4.6.1896 died 8.9-1974, both are buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Silver Lake, Ks. After their marriage they lived with Creed's mother, Emily J. Queen until her death. They then went to Kansas to live where all of their children, except the three oldest, were born. Creed worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years. He retired in 1957. They were the parents of eleven children: Charles Evans born and died in 1916 age six weeks. Willard Randolph born and died in 1917 age 3 months, Marion Wesley "Joe" Queen born 10-28.1918 died 12.30-1957. Married Edith Hanson.
