Notes:
Hermann Gerhard Meiners and Maria Adelheid Overmöhle lived in Suttrup, Germany, until about 1859, when they moved with their family to Lechterke, near Badbergen, Germany. The Meiners family immigrated to the United States in 1880. They traveled aboard the Hermann, which embarked at Bremen, Germany, and arrived at the Port of Baltimore on 12 Aug 1880. The Meiners family settled in Roselle, Carroll County, IA.
Hermann Meiners and Adelheid Overmöhle moved to Minnesota with the family of their daughter, Margaret Meiners Dorpinghaus, about 1888. The Dorpinghaus family settled near Fulda, MN, where Hermann Meiners and Adelheid Overmöhle lived until about 1896. After that time, they lived with the family of their youngest daughter, Anna Meiners Nusser, near Heron Lake, MN.
Hermann Meiners worked as a farmer. In Germany he and his son Theodore made wooden shoes, which they sold in Holland in the summer. Gerhard Meiners, the oldest son of Hermann Meiners, worked as a railroad conductor to help the family earn money for their passage to America.

Theodore Henry Meiners immigrated to the United States with his parents, brothers, and sisters. The family traveled aboard the Hermann, which embarked at Bremen Germany, and arrived at the Port of Baltimore on 12 Aug 1880. The Meiners family settled in Roselle, Carroll County, IA. Theodore Meiners was naturalized on 25 Sep 1885 in Carroll, IA.
Theodore Henry Meiners moved to Louisville, KY, in 1888. He owned a grocery at Walnut and 23rd Streets and also worked as an insurance salesman. In 1902, he was fatally injured in a fight with a customer outside Lichtefeld Brothers’ Grocery at Main and 26th Streets, where he worked as a butcher.
