Gerhard Henry Sand immigrated to the United States through the Port of New Orleans in 1855. He settled in Louisville, KY, where he worked as a foundry laborer. Henry Sand was naturalized as a U. S. citizen on 5 Apr 1866 in Louisville, KY.
Mary Elizabeth Poppe immigrated to the United States in 1858. She traveled aboard the NewYork, which embarked at Bremen, Germany, and arrived at the Port of New York on 28 Aug 1858. She settled in Louisville, KY, where she worked as a dressmaker.
Joseph Henry Sand served with the 1st Regiment of the Kentucky Infantry in the Spanish-American War in 1898. He died from typhoid fever returning from the war.

Theodore Henry Meiners immigrated to the United States with his parents, brothers, and sisters, who settled in Roselle, IA, in 1880. In 1887 he moved to Louisville, KY, where he worked as a grocer and an insurance salesman. In 1902 Theodore Meiners was involved in a dispute with a customer at Lichtefeld Brothers' Grocery at Main and 26th Streets, where he worked as a butcher. He died from injuries received in a fight outside the grocery.
