William Uniacke (b.Co. Cork 1807, D. Canada 1907)is believed to be of the 10th generation on his family tree; his father is believed to have been James Uniacke (1750-1835), although this link has not been satisfactorily established at this time.He is believed to have had two married sisters also emigrate from Ireland to Canada, however nothing is known for certain of his siblings. The most likely probability is that William's ancestors came from the Castelyons area of Co. Cork, Coolbaun Townland, east of Fermoy on the Waterford County Border and a number of Uniackes lived in the Castlelyons, Conna, Fermoy, Midleton areas of Cork County at the time.

William farmed in the Conna area of Co.Cork, where in 1845 he married Ellen Hegarty, daughter of John Hegarty and Abigail O'Keefe. The entire family tree of the Uniacke/Hegarty family now comprises over 4000 individuls, and is ongoing.

William and Ellen had 11 children, 3 born in Ireland the 8 in Canada. In the 1850s William and Ellen sailed, with members of Ellen's family for Canada, where they settled in Ontario.

This outline is of their descendants. While William's ancestors are believed to be known, clear documentaion eludes us still, in spite of years of research, and, in 2002 a visit to Ireland by many of their descendants, as part of a Haggarty/Uniacke family reunion.
