| This web site is dedicated to the late Harley Urbatch of Forest City, Iowa. Since the death of Harley, I have developed an interest in the genealogical research and history of my family. Harley painstakingly documented the family history prior to the availability and resources the computer and Internet now provide. I possess a record of his labor and have been diligently validating and adding to it. If you have an interest in the family and seek information, want to contribute, or wish to collaborate on information please notify me. I have listed my e-mail address for your convenience. I am asking that my family please provide me with the names of missing family members including birth dates and locations and where applicable dates of death. I would also appreciate any corrections that may be required as well. Thank you for your interest Roger Urbatch The Urbatsch family's history began in the area of Breslau Germany, the city and region since WWII is known as Wroclaw, Poland. The Urbatsch family immigrating to the US in the early 1800's, pioneered the upper Midwest settling primarily in Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota. The original immigrants were truly courageous leaving what was civilization and moving to a new land with many hazards and great uncertainty. Having left family and friends for a new life in America must have represented a great and exciting challenge. We may never know the reason for leaving the homeland however, America must have been perceived as a land of great opportunity. The Family, with a rich history in agriculture tilled the virgin soils of the heartland and have defended the flag of the United States in every war or conflict since their arrival in America. The descendents of these early pioneers have and will continue make their own impact on the development of this nation. In September of 2000 a family reunion was held in Kensett, Iowa. There was a great turn out and interest in the festivities. Pearl Urbatsch and Marian Urbatch hosted the reunion.
