| Welcome to my Urick Homepage...this is very much a work in progress and will be changing weekly if not daily. John Urich (Ury) (Urie) (born between 1732 and 1750) is my principle project, as I have not successfully tied him to parents. He married Joseba Fahnestock between 17 Feb 1765 and 1 May 1774 in Cocalico, (Now Ephrata) Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. John was a Blacksmith by trade, he owned property in Cocalico, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania and shows up in the Censuses (1790, 1800, 1810) living among the Fahnestock's. John first shows up on the Lancaster County Tax Rolls in 1771...he could have just moved into the area, or another possibility is that he was already living in the area and turned 21 in 1771, allowing him to be included on the Tax Rolls. When Diedrich Fahnestock's Will was proved 15 Febuary 1784, John was listed as "John Ury" but his signiture reads "Johannes Urig." At one time it was believed that our John Ury and Johannes Uhrig that arrived on the "Good Ship Samuel" were one and the same, but I have documented that this is not correct. On another occasion it was believed that Francis Ury's son John (arrived on the Princess Augusta Sept 16, 1736) was our progenitor, but again I have documented that this is incorrect...so the search continues. John and Joseba had two sons; Joseph and George. Most of Joseph's line is documented as he stayed in and around Ephrata. George disappears from Ephrata in approximately 1809. Old family notes suggest that he moved to the Northwest Territory but I have never successfully located any information on George or his line. I beleive that George married Barbara Graver and based on the 1800 Census enumeration they had a son prior to 1800. George was a shoemaker by trade. I welcome commentary and queries so please contact me if you can quantify or enhance this research. If you happen to be a participant in my registers, I'm always on the look out for old family related correspondence, and especially photographs of family members to enhance the research. Any clues on family lines will be appreciated! |
