Notes for Robert II Done: The War of the Roses began in 1455.. It was a civil war that divided many Cheshire families. The Battle of Blore Heath was fought just across the border in Staffordshire on Sunday, September 23, 1459. The Elizabethan poet Michael Drayton commemorated the hard and bloody battle with this verse:
“There Dutton, Dutton kills, And Done doth kill a Done.”
