OTTO GOTZINGER FAMILY:
I am researching the ancestors of my mother's father, Otto Gotzinger, a rancher/stockman who lived in Idaho until his death in 1930. At age 17, Otto emigrated from Germany on the SS Elbe from Breman to New York, arriving on May 31, 1884.
Per the passenger list, Otto arrived with his mother Margaretha Kettner Gottzinger, age 39, and 4 brothers and sisters, Wilhelm (William), Freida (Freda), Lina (Lina), and Johann (John). We believe Margaretha came over with her sister, Mrs. Benching (sp?) and a cousin, Rose Dingler. She continued to Idaho, perhaps with a friend named Andersen or Anderson, to join a cousin, Adolph Braun who was already there. She married August Berg the same year and had two more daughters, Marie and Frieda.
WHAT WE WANT TO KNOW:
Otto's father, Wilhelm Gotzinger, a shoemaker, born on January 10,1836, married Maria Margaretha Kettner on November 28, 1865. Wilhelm was the son of Andreas and Franziska Ziegler Gotzinger. Wilhelm died in Germany in 1880. Margaretha was born November 6, 1844 to Joseph Anton Kettner, and his wife Christiana, nee Ketteman. (Thanks to John Kopp in Arkansas who responded to a previous posting on this page, I have a photo copy and translation of the marriage license for Wilhelm and Margaretha.)
One daughter, Bertha, died in Germany in infancy. William came from the village of Hungheim, Baden, located 9km due west of Adelsheim. WE WOULD LIKE ANY INFORMATION on either Wilhelm or Margaretha's families in Germany.
Otto married Elgie Belle Hollenbeak. On her side of the familiy key names are: Glover, Hollenbeak, Vestal, Williams. Elgie's family just kept moving westward settling in a many different states for short periods of time. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ROSS EARL GARLETTS FAMILY:
Will also be recording information about the ancestors of my father, Ross Earl Garletts who is descended from Captain Nicholas Friend (b.1618) and Anna (of Weymouth, England). Lavinia Friend married Henry Garlitz in 1841. Pennsylvania, West Virgina, Maryland and Virginia are the key locations. Members of this family also emigrated from Germany.
We have extensive information on this side of the family compiled manually by a great Aunt over many years (much of which I belive is already in WFT.) Family names: Friend, Garlitz, Glotfelty, Tissue.
