The Rhoads (originally Rhodes) family geneaology was started for our family by Fredrick W. (Rick) Rhoads, Najla L. Kutait and Forrest L. Rhoads. Rick lived in Richmond, VA for several years and had a keen interest in our genealogical history. At the time he was working on the family records, Najla Kutait found information on the Osborn family which linked to ours. She also contributed the Etta Rhoads Osborn family history. Without one key, Rick's work could not have progressed back beyond Joseph Rhoads. During the course of a Rhoads family reunion in Missouri, an aunt, Ilah McCutcheon, furnished the information that Joseph Rhoads married Elizabeth Shepherd. This turned out to be the most important piece of information we had. Of course, much of our original work was done before the knowledge of The World Family Tree Maker and the online support groups we now have. The marriage of Joseph to Elizabeth Shepherd connected Joseph to his father Reuben, and from there the Virginia records were very good, back to Hezekiah Rhodes in Middlesex County in 1684. In fact, this era of the family history had been researched and worked out by Mildred Marshall of Charlottesville, VA, whose mother was a Rhodes and a descendent of Reuben's brother, Thomas. You will find that many Rhoads names appear in our records. Perhaps this will lead you to more information about your ancestors having these surnames. Our family lived primarily in Missouri but have now moved to the East Coast, the South, and the midwest. The geneaology starts in 1716 and has been updated through our latest records to 1997. If anyone reading this home page has information to add to our records, we would very much appreciate your support and assistance. |
