The reports published here describe the genealogy of my maternal grandparents, Anna Marie Dugas (1902-1990) and Felix Dugas (1904-1977) of Assumption Parish, Louisiana. Since the late 1700's, their ancestors lived primarily in the southern Louisiana parishes of Assumption, Ascension and St. James.
Here are some of the surnames found in this genealogy: Ache, Aucoin, Babin, Bergeron, Blanchard, Bourg, Capdeville, Daigle, Dugas, Foret, Landry, LeBlanc, Melancon, Richard, Theriot
The data in this genealogy were obtained primarily from Volumes 1 through 11 of the Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records. My second most important source has been U.S. census records. Transcriptions of each church and census record that I referenced can be found in the 100-page Ahnentafel report.
My paternal grandparents, Salvatore Valenziano II (1881-1952) and Rosa Serio (1890-1983), were from Cefalu, Sicily. My work on this side of the family has been limited to the collection of facts and stories given to me by my aunt. She and other members of my extended family have visited Cefalu and are still in contact with our cousins there. From her, I have learned that Salvatore’s parents were Salvatore Valenziano I (1853-1929) and Nunzia De Francesca (1855-1929). Salvatore’s parents were Carmelo Valenziano (1814-?) and Giuseppa Messina (1819-?). Nunzia De Francesca’s parents were Salvatore De Francesca and Marianna Battaglia. The parents of Rosa Serio, my grandmother, were Giovanni Serio (about 1863-1890) and Rosa Pedi. Giovanni’s parents were Francesco Serio and Rosa Fonte.
Reports last updated August 9, 1998.
