| The descendants of Dennis and Mary (Thompson)Thompson of Preble Co., Ohio. It is thought Dennis was born in Darke Co., Ohio and is possibly Dennis Whalen Thompson, son of Elizabeth Penny Thompson, who was adopted by Joseph Thompson in Preble Co., Ohio May 3, 1819 at age 12. However, nothing has been proven as yet, but if so, it brings up more questions. Who was Elizabeth Penny? Was Dennis born a Penny, or is Penny Elizabeth's maiden name? If Joseph Thompson is his adopted father, who was his biological father? After the death of his wife, Mary, He was left with 6 children ranging in age from 10 months and 10 years, Dennis took as his second wife, Sarah Biggs. They were married in Preble Co. on November 20, 1836. Dennis Thompson's will is dated September 20 1839 and Sarah relinquished rights of administration to his estate to William Maddock. On November 28, 1839, Robert Thompson was appointed by the Preble Co. court to serve as guardian of Mary and Dennis' minor children. (Thomas Brown, witness). Children Zimiri and Elisha were still living with their maternal grandparents in 1850 when the census was taken. |
