My family lived in the Oil City, PA area during the 1800s oil boom.I've been able to trace back to my 2nd great-grandfather,
JOHN C. VANNAUSDALL who resided in Oil City at the time of his death on May 7, 1879 in Petrolia, PA. He was married to Margaret Ellen Evans.
They had six children:

2. James McCollugh VannAusdall, 1862-1943
3. Hugh E. VannAusdall, 1865-1936
4. Ellen H. 1866-1945 married Fred Fox
5. William F. P. VannAusdall 1868-1944 married Wealtha G. Barr
6. JOHN CHARLES FREMONT VANNAUSDALL, 1861-1927 married Laura McCormick, my 1st great-grandparents.
My 3rd great-grandfather ISAAC VANNAUSDALL was born December 1791 in York County, Pa taken from baptismal records,Conewago Dutch Reformed Church, York, County, PA, and died About 1846. He married ESTHER ALTER 22 January 1816, daughter of JOHN ALTER and HELENOR SHEETZ. She was born 14 July 1798 in York County, near Gettysburg, PA (not verified). Children of ISAAC VANNAUSDALL and ESTHER ALTER are (most not verified):

He was born 18 August 1834 in Erie, PA, and died 28 April 1904 in Wattersonville, Armstrong County, PA. Children of LAURA VANNAUSDALL and HENRY JOHNSTON are:

iii. SARA JANE JOHNSTON, b. 22 October 1865, Oil City, PA; d. 10 December 1948, Warrensburg, Johnson, MO Burial: Stuart, Holt, Nebraska. She married CHARLES ARTER 10 February 1881 in Brockwayville, Elk, PA. He was born 23 July 1858 in Geauga County, Ohio, and died 12 September 1918 in Stuart, Holt, Nebraska. I suspect that Isaac was the son of SIMON VANARSDALEN, who was the son of CORNELIS SIMONSZ, who was the son of of Symon Van Artsdale who came over from Holland in 1653. Any help in correcting or verifying would be appreciated. I am particularly interested in Isaac brother of my 2nd great-grandfather, born 25 Nov 1823 and may have died 1844.
