According to
Etymologist W. Beele of Kennedylaan 34-9400 Ieper, LAND may originate from the
ancient German Langx, lang", landa: or the person's name Land. The most
probable [lijke] according to Mr. Beele, LANG to be in the masculine LANC,

SCOOT: comes from the ancient Germanic SKAUTA, meaning forested sandy soil

If the original form LANTSOCHT is without VAN so can the name return to the
masculine LANCSOCHT; synonym of LANCEVEL: disease or cramp in the belly or
intestines.
According to research done by Verstraete Daniel: the meaning of the name VAN
LANDSCHOOT is "a castle or citadel that has been strengthened on land".
According to the Bankers Van Landschoot from the Netherlands (no relation to
the Belgium Van Landschoots), the meaning of the name is "a long piece of

The Meaning of the Name "Van Landschoot"
The following information was assembled by Leon Van Landschoot (19?? to
1980), Van Landschoot family historian. It has been translated into English by
Hans Van Landschoot and Peter Landschoot.
According to Etymologist W. Beele of Kennedylaan 34-9400 Ieper, LAND may
originate from the ancient German LANGX:LANG, LANDA or the person's name LAND.
It seems most probable, according to Mr. Beele, that LANG in the masculine form
of LANC, became LANT through a convenient exchange of C with T. Through popular
language use over many years, LANT became LAND.
SCOOT comes from the ancient Germanic SKAUTA, meaning "forested sandy soil
which juts out into marshy terrain".
If VAN is removed from the original form LANTSOCHT, this name can be converted
to the masculine LANCSOCHT, a synonym of LANCEVEL meaning "disease or
cramp in the belly or intestines".
According to research done by Verstraete Daniel, the meaning of the name VAN
LANDSCHOOT is "a castle or citadel that has been strengthened on
land".
Hans
With your help and help from my Dutch friend, I translated the Van Landschoot
name derivation information into English. The first version is a direct
translation without regard to proper sentence structure. The second version is
modified so that it reads more like "modern english". See if you
agree.
According to the well-known Van Landschoot family of bankers from the
Netherlands (no relation to the Belgium Van Landschoots), the meaning of the
name is "a long piece of land".
