| Our family name is Vandersteen and in 1839 Charles Vandersteen and Eliza Ann Howard had a child out of wedlock, his was registered Charles Vandersteen. He was brought up by his grandmother Mary Howard at 9, Anglesea Street, Bethnal Green, London, His father Charles was a publican of The Two Bells Public House, Whitechaple Road. He and Eliza never married, he after being left a considerable amout of money and property by his sister Ester he became a Gentleman. Eliza Ann went onto marrie a Thomas Keen in 1846. Charles the illegitimate was give the surname Howard but was never regestered as such, he dropped the family name Vandersteen when he married and became a Howard. |
