Garrett Vanzant's Will

"In the name of god amen I, Garrett Vanzant of the County of Lincoln, a farmer, being very sick and weak of body but perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God calling unto mind my last Will and Testament that is to say I give and
recommend my soul into the Almighty God that give it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent manner. Nothing doudting a general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty powers of god and as touching such
wordily where with it has god to bless me with. In this life I give in wise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form first I give and bequest to Mary my dearly beloved wife the bed, bed stand and furniture on which we lie,
together with Two and calves one young mare colt (meho). One ewe and two wethers the uncalest copper kettle and smallest pot but on the tea kettle with Scepag therto belonging on box Iron and heater one tin colander and looking glass one bible
she had of her father, one printed desk and one Long basin and four plates second that land purchased of John Smith must be paid according to agreement of my estate, two led plow Iron with all the tools to be equally divided between my son
Garrett and James my well beloved daughters Rachel one bed and furniture her choice either of them three horses in Garrett's custody one cow and calf her spinning wheel sacte her trunk and one forty pound note on John Smith and John Fullemwiker
payable in the year 1788, four pounds levied of my estate to purchase her a saddle the same and tackling. Must be with James and my wife for the use of my family and at my wife's death to be divided between James, Rachel and Elizabeth equals
likewise my still order to be between Garrett and James during the term of seven years my wife receiving the fourth during her life or widowhood and at the end of seven years James is to have the still wholsale to himself my wife is to enjoy
her saddle and bridle and spinning wheel as above. The largest (here is a big tobacco spot) I order to James at his mothers death the rest of my personal estate at my death to be appraised by two honest men and to be divided beween my daughter
Mary Maganhey one shilling and no more and my son Jacob one shilling and no more. I ordain my wife Mary and my son Garret and James Vanzant executors of this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I the said Garret VanZant have to
this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the twenty third day of March in the year of one thousand Seven hundred and eighty-seven.
Signed sealed and acknowleded by the said Garrett Vanzant the testator as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who were present at the signing thereof.

Mary Vanzant's last Will and Testament
"First I give to my daughter Mary Megayhey five shillings, Jacob Vanzant likewise five shillings, Garrett Vanzant also five shillings, Rachel Vanzant two pounds, Elizabeth Vanzant like wise two pounds. I likewise give to Rachel two pewter
plates and to Elizabeth I likewise give two pewter plates and one shaving dish I likewise give to Elizabeth my gold ring the two silver tea spoons I have and I give one of them to Elizabeth the other I give to Rachel, I likewise give my wearing
clothes to be equally divided between Rachel and Elizabeth and after the above articles and same left which I have given to each of the above named Mary Megayhey, Jacob Vanzant, Garrett Vanzant, Rachel Vanzant are paid to each one according as
above given the ballance I give and bequeth with the ballance of my worldly Estate where with it has pleased God to bless me, to my beloved son James Vanzant my Executor to this my last will and testament. I writing wherof I set my hand and
seal this 29th day of January 1796.
