The will o f Madalena'sbrother, James , probated 3 July 1839,states " I give t o mysister Magdalena, wife of Absolum Van auken (the mone y wasgiven in trust to David Vannoye for her) the said Absolum havi ngabandone d her without giving to her means of subsistance and itbei ng my inte ntion to give to her a separate supportindependant and bey ond thec ontrol of her worthless husband.Evidently the money did no t stretc h far enough for all theirneeds. Absolum's son Jacob H. (His tory o f SteubenCounty,Indiana) traded his farm in Pike Co. PA fo r a trac t ofcoal land near Pittsburge which he refusedto occupy .At fiv eyears of age, Jacob, was thus homeless and face toface w ithpover ty. During suceeding winters he attended the countryschool o f Susse x Co. Speculation.. That Magdalena's line given a (1) Marinus - (2) Isaac - (3) Isaac Jr is based in part on the similarity of names given herchi ldren with the names in the Isaac Van Auken Jr. m. MargaretHornbeck f amily.Isaac and Margaret were also witnesses to thebaptism of Magda lena's first child, Margaret.
The will of Madalena's brother, James , probated 3 July 1839, states" I give to my sister Magdalena, wife of Absolum Vanauken (the moneywa s given in trust to David Vannoye for her) the said Absolum havingaba ndoned her without giving to her means of subsistance and it beingm y intention to give to her a separate support independant and beyondt he control of her worthless husband.
Evidently the money did not stretch far enough for all their needs.Ab solum's son Jacob H. (History of Steuben County, Indiana) traded hisf arm in Pike Co. PA for a tract of coal land near Pittsburge which her efused to occupy.At five years of age, Jacob, was thus homeless and face to face with poverty.During suceeding winters he attended thec ountry school of Sussex Co.
