Wm.H.H.VanAuken was named for Wm. Henry Harrison (1773-1841) was a son of a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and was appointed by Pres. John Adams to be Governor of Indiana Territory in Jan. 1800. Along the Tippecanoe River near Lafayette, Indiana, Wm.Henry Harrison quelled an Indian attack Nov., 1811. These events lead to his becoming the 9th President of the United States. He was inaugurated Mar.4, 1841, and he died in office April 4th, 1841, and was succeeded by Tyler, hence the early slogan, "Tippecanoe and Tyler, too".
Other sources, and the War Pension abstract for father John, has his birthdate as 7-2-1816.
Van Akin burial lot was purchased 10/22/1887, combined with Smith and Welch. It is located on outside road next to street, opposite (red house and barn - no longer there).
