Deasty Vaseau met Kate Goodfallow while Deasty was working at the Solvey in Detroit. Kate was about 20 years old at the time. Their first home was located at 543 Central Street near Lafayette Street in Detroit, Michigan. It was while living here that James and Catherine were born. Catherine remembered attending the Beard and Wilson School. Apparently a cement block business opened next door to this home and Kate and Deasty sold it and moved to a new home on Kentucky Street.
