Tubbs, Johnston, Allen,Reagor & Huddleston Families of Texas
When I first met my husbands grandmother 37 years ago, one of her first questions was, "Who was my parents families... where from". She had been an avid genealogist for many years. Upon finding out that my father died when I was a baby and I had no knowledge of the Huddleston family, she advised me how to start looking for them. I knew so little, I looked and found nothing. No one could tell me anything, so I worked on my mothers. On her side, Tubbs, Allen, Pryor & Johnston, I found that my family came to Texas with Stephen F Ausitn, the father of Texas. They were personal friends of Austin, Sam Houston and William B. Travis.. I was now firmly hooked... genealogy became my major pastime. A passion that had lasted all these years. Since that time, I did find my fathers family and traced them back to Huddleston Knob in Pickett County TN and beyond...A few of My surnames are: TUBBS, ALLEN, JOHNSTON, LINDER, KILLINGSWORTH, CROLL, POWELL, HARRY, HUTCHINSON, TUCKER, BISHOP, PRYOR, THORNTON, TRAMMELL, REAGOR, SHOOK, LAWLER, WILSON, WEST, HALE, BLEVINS, HUDDLESTON, LEDBETTER, STINSON, CHESSER, MARTIN, AUSBURN, CHAMBLESS, EASON, SMITH, DINGUS, DANIEL, LEWIS & DUNN. On my husbands side, I have researched: VAUGHN, MADDOX, SHAW, & KILBORN. These ancestors of mine traveled from the eastern shores of Maryland and Virgina to the Carolinas. Some through the mountains of Tennessee, while others came through Georgia, Alabama , & Mississippi. They were among the first settlers as they moved west. I come from strong stock.... They were farmers, blacksmiths, gun smiths, politicians, ranchers and preachers... They were German, English, Swiss, Irish, Scottish and yes, even a little Choctaw. and became Texans. ...... The pioneer spirit which their histories have instilled in me, has made me TEXAS PROUD..... |
