EREMIAH ROLISON:
JEREMIAH ROLISON'S LAST WILL & TESTAMENT

In the name of God Amen, I, Jeremiah Rolison in the Township of Vernon in the County of Sussex and State of New Jersey, being weak of body but of sound mind, memory and understanding, do hereby make and publish this my last will and testament in a manner and form following that is to day: First, it is my will and I do order that all my debts and funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently can after my decease.

Second, it is my will and I do order that the lot of land on which I at present reside situated in the Township of Vernon, County of Sussex and State of New Jersey, containing about 22 acres be rented a sufficient length of time to raise the amount of the following bequests:

First to my son John Rolison's youngest daughter Lydia, I will and bequeath $20.00; and bequeath $20.00 to John J. Decker's youngest daughter Eliza; to Cornelius Rolison's youngest daughter Susan, $20.00 to my daughter Elizabeth Rolison's child Morris, $20.00 to my daughter Polly Rolison's child Alpheus (Alsheas/Elsieus??), $20.00 too my daughter Nancy Bell, $20.00 and the after the expenses necessary to defray my funeral and debts to be taken from monies arising from the rent of said lot after which sums are satisfied it is my will and I do order said lot of land be sold and the whole amount it may bring, it is my will and I do order this to be paid equally between my son Jeremiah Rolison and my youngest daughter Elinor Rolison. I do will and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Rolison my pride cow also my household furniture excepting on bed and two smoothing irons those I will to my daughter Elenor Rolison. I do will and bequeath to my daughter Catherine Harrison, widow of the late Thomas Harrison deceased, a lot of land on which she at present resides situated in the County of Hunterdon, Township of Alexander and State of New Jersey, containing about six acres during her natural life and after her decease the said lot to be sold and the proceeds of which thirty dollars of it to be paid to my granddaughter Anna Harrison and the residue to be equally divided between all the children of the said Catherine Harrison widow as aforesaid and lastly I hereby appoint my son John Rolison and my trusty friend David Benjamin executors of this last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of August in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty three. (Note the word Vernon between the first and second lines on the first page being underlined before signing.)

Signed, sealed and delivered by the said Jeremiah Rolison to be his testament and last Will in the presence of Mr. Christopher Longstreet, Jr., Oliver Hinchman, Patrick Carr (Cass?) of Sussex County.

Christopher Longstreet and Patrick Carr, two of the subscribing evidences to the written will being duly sworn did severally depose and say that they saw Jeremiah Rolison the Testator within named will sign and seal the will and heard him publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last Will and Testament and at the doing thereof he was of sound and disposing mind and memory as far as they know and as they verily believe and that Oliver Hinchman the other subscribing witness to the said will was present at the same time and subscribed his name as a witness thereto together with these deponents in the presence of the said Testator sworn and subscribed before me this 24th of Oct 1823. William T. Anderson, Surrogate.

David Benjamin and John Rolison the executors within named being duly sworn did severally depose and say that the within writing contains the true and last Will and Testament of Jeremiah Rolison the Testator within named as far as they know and as they really believe. That they will well and faithfully perform the same by paying first the debts of the deceased and then the Legacies in the said Testament specified so far as the goods, chattels, and credits of the said deceased can thereunto extend and that they will make and exhibit into the Surrogate office of the County of Sussex a true and perfect inventory of the said goods and chattels which shall come to theri suspicion or knowldege or to the suspicion of any other person or persons for their use and render a true account when thereunto lawfully required. Sworn and subscribed before me on this 24th of Oct 1823. Mr. William T. Anderson, Surrogate.

Anderson, Surrogate of the County of Sussex do certify the annexed to be a true copy of the last Will and Testament of Jeremiah Rolison, late of the County of Sussex, deceased, and that David Benjamin and John Rolison both of the county of Sussex, State of New Jersey, the executors therein named proved the same before and are duly authorized to take upon themselves the administration of the estate of the Testator agreeably to the said will. Witness my hand and seal of office the twenty fourth day of October in the year of our Lord. Eighteen Hundred and Twenty Three.
