Notes for H
ANS HEINRICH JOHANN SCHOENFELDT:
Johann was raised in Germany. He met a girl named Elizabeth Poet and married her. He had several sons. When Johannes was in his late forties, he and his family were having problems. For whatever reason a German Baron was dealing people problems. They left in 1726. It got bad enough that Johann saw that a war was coming. In fact, there was a big war in the late 1730's or early 1740. They took a boat down a river, name unknown, until they reached the coast.
This was Johann, Elizabeth, and their sons. Also along for the ride was Elizabeths brother and his family. I think his name was James Poet.
After making it to the Neatherlands, they settled there, around Rotterdam. This is the reason why some people think that the Schoenfeld family is Dutch. They lived there for a good many years. I imagine that there were a few cousins, or what have you, that made the trip with Johannes. The Schoenfeld name is quiet common in the Neatherlands.
The first Schoenfeld to fill the urge to sail to North America was Johannes Schoenfeld, Jr.. He arrived in North America in the year 1728. There was no United States at this point. The area was under English rule. Johannes, Sr. and Elizabeth and a very young George, their son, arrived in North America in the year 1733. They left Rotterdam, stopped in England, and then traveled on to North America. One story that I heard was that they were befriended, in the Neatherlands, by a group called Swakenfelters.
I'm not sure of the spelling or the fact at all.
Frederick, one of their sons and my ansester, didn't come to North America until 1737. John Peter Schoenfeld came in 1752. The Schoenfeld's opened up what is now called Maryland. They were among the first to settle there.
