The Verheuls settled in the Hanford California in the early 1900's.Grandfather Willem came from Holland and settled near Hardwick where he raised fruit, grapes and walnuts. He also raised his family from which our family generated. In the early 1950's my father, Harry F. Verheul, gave up farming and opend a "Beer Joint" in the Sierras east of Porterville California at the end of State Highway 190 in Quaking Aspen. He and Mom ran the store for 27 years serving loggers, hunters, campers, and people packing mules into the back country.
