hit[from Scope and ContentRe entailing estates generally and destroying the entail, stating a tenant may entail copyhold land generally or specially by surrender and enrollment, recorded in the court, if the entail is general, copyhold lands are to be surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the Manor, to the use of the surrenderer, his wife and heirs with remainder to the right heirs. The surrender or his wife cannot surrender the premises, nor can the child during the lives of their parents, if the heir joins with the parents then the surrender is valid, re, 28 April 1736. Manor of Berkswell. Surrender in court of copyhold property from Edward Palmer and Damaris, his wife, for their lives and the lives of the heirs to the use of their heirs of, all of Edward Palmer's copyhold land in Berkswell, Warws., worth c £5,000; re 16 Nov 1740. Manor of Berkswell. Surrender out of court, from Edward Palmer and Damaris his wife, to Edward Palmer of, all the abovementioned premises. Proviso for revocation. Note re the death of Damaris Palmer 18 Nov 1740; re 22 April 1747. Manor of Berkswell. Surrender for £100; from Edward Palmer and Elizabeth his wife to Thomas Loveitt of Berkswell [Warws.] weaver, of, part of the abovementioned copyhold property in Berkswell, worth £100. Later Loveitt on wishing to surrender the estate searched the court rolls and found he had no title and threatened to sue Edward Palmer and send him to gaol for the consideration money, which was not worth a third of the value of the estate. Mr. Dadley the steward informed him that Edward Palmer could not make him any title independent of his daughter and heir, she therefore joined with her husband in the following surrender which would not affect her title to the estate. 22 April 1767 Manor of Berkswell. Release of right, from Samuel Pearman and Anne Maria (heir apparent of Edward Palmer) to Thomas Loveitt of Berkswell [Warws.] weaver of (1) All estate right, title, interest etc. of property surrendered by Edward Palmer and Elizabeth, his wife, to Thomas Loveitt. On the same day Edward Palmer suffered a recovery of the abovementioned premises to Loveitt and surrendered all other premises field by Edward Palmer in Berkswell [Warws.] to the use of Samuel Pearman for life, with a remainder to Anna Maria, his wife, for life, and to Samuel Pearman in fee; re 2 Nov 1777 Death of Anna Maria, wife of Samuel Pearman, during the lifetime of her father, Edward Palmer, leaving issue; re Jan 1791, death of Edward Palmer, Charles Palmer Pearman, the youngest son and heir according to the custom of the manor being heir. Statement of Mark Pearman's reasons why the conveyance to Thomas Loveitt is invalid and the opinion of [Mr. Wheler] is requested re, the validity of 28 April 1736, the surrender by Edward and Damaris Palmer; if the surrender of 16 Nov 1740 is legal, whether Edward and Damaris Palmer were bound by it; if 22 April 1747, surrender from Edward Palmer and Elizabeth his wife to Thomas Loveitt is valid or whether it only gave him a life interest in the premises; whether the surrender of 22 April 1767 can be related to the surrender of 22 April 1747 and can be considered as lone surrender, and the kind of estate created by these surrenders; if the surrender did not pass the fee simple to Loveitt, whether the surrender of 22 April 1767; from Edward Palmer, Samuel Pearman and Anna Maria Pearman and all other copyhold land held by the said parties in Berkswell could vest the premises previously surrendered to Thomas Loveitt with the above parties by the general words of the surrender; whether the youngest son of Anna Maria Pearman is not entitled to the estate according to the custom of the manor.

hit[from Scope and ContentRe their introduction at Warwick of [Mark Pearman] to H. G[reswolde] Lewis and the Rev. W[illiam]m Eyre by Thomas Chattock and a conversation about [Benjamin] Palmer's estates at Olton End [Solihull, Warws.], the claims of William Wigley and Pearman being a pedigree of Wigley's family, re a trial of 1776, stating that his grandmother was illegitimate and that he could have no claim to the estate, this pedigree however was incorrect as the grandmother was legitimate. Pearman states that he has a correct pedigree of the Palmer family, to whom he is related made for his own satisfaction and will give H. G[reswolde] Lewis a copy with additional information.

hit[from Scope and ContentStating that Mrs. Baldwyn is dead, her property held according to Mr. Palmer's will must be settled in accordance with the terms of the will, that Mark Pearman was informed by Edward Palmer that if he survived Mrs. Baldwyn, he would be entitled to the estates, that Mark Pearman is examining the claims of the parties considered to be entitled to the estate [of the Palmer's of Olton, Warws.]; has pursued this course for 25 years, working from a pedigree showing the relationship between H. G[reswold] Lewis and Mrs. Wigley to the late Mr. Palmer, Mrs. Baldwyn's first husband and is satisfied that Mr. Wilson is related to Mr. Palmer and Mark Pearman's grandfather was mistaken as to his rights, the heir male, not the heir general being able to claim after Mr. Wigley and Mr. and Mrs. Wilson [if they are still living]. Mark Pearman states his wish to arrange a meeting between the representatives of himself and Henry Greswold Lewis on his return from Malvern [Worcs.], to provide him with pedigrees and other information and suggests Henry Greswold Lewis's professional adviser, Mr. Chattock, be present.

FILE - Letter from William Mott to Mark Pearman [of Coventry] - ref.  PA 47/42/18  - date: 17 Oct 1812

Mr. Sheperd, formerly of Great Rollwright [Oxfordshire] states that he thinks Mark Pearman should declare himself a claimant as heir at law, inspect deeds and papers of any other claimants and not use his pedigree at the moment.
