-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greene, her husband.

Anne married Humphory Greene c1661 and there are records of four children.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pearman, Nicholas, Clent, Will proved 13 June 1724 (Index to Wills, Worcs CRO)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nicholas Pearman was named as executor of his father’s will. However, the date of

the marriage between Nicholas and Sara (when this Nicholas would have been 40)

and the fact that Thomas inherited the lease of Hollow Cross Farm (implying that he

was the oldest son) suggest that this Nicholas may have died in childhood and

another unrecorded son named Nicholas was born after Thomas in c1647. The will of

Nicholas Pearman might clarify this.

Nicholas married twice:

4

(1) Married Elizabeth Smale on 2 July 1676 in Hanbury, Worcs. Elizabeth died a

week after the birth of their only daughter, also named Elizabeth.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Both his wife, Mary, and youngest son, Richard, had died before March 1713 when his

father’s Will was proven. Ambrose died intestate, and his three surviving sons, who were

“above the age of seven and under the age of seventeen” applied for administration and their

“Unkle John Pearman of Clent” elected guardian. An inventory of the goods of Ambrose

Pearman (8 Feb 1715 – see Notes) valued his assets at £116.3.10. The Will of his father, who

died in Oct 1714, required Ambrose to pay £90 to his younger brothers and sisters, an

amount that would have rendered him bankrupt. Did this have a bearing on his early death?

The Letter of Administration (15 Feb 1715) was witnessed by Richard Pearman, whose

signature matches that of his cousin (son of Nicholas Pearman and Sara). The “Unkle John”

may have been the children’s direct uncle (Ambrose’s younger brother) or their second cousin,

Richard’s younger brother.

The Inventory of Ambrose’s goods valued them at £128.7.10, with debts of £12.4.0, including

a debt of £1 to a Mary Small, possibly his mother-in-law.

Notes

1. There are references in Clent Parish records to Richard Pearman (1669) and Tho: Parman

[sic] (1679) as churchwardens – possibly father and son?

2. The four surviving children – John, Sarah, Samuel and Anne – correspond to four

executors of the will of Thomas Pearman. The two other beneficiaries were Mary, Thomas’s

widow, and their son, Ambrose Pearman.

3. Mary Cookes may have been born c1640 in Stoke Prior, the daughter of Humphrey and

Jane Cookes, but as her last child was born in 1699 this seems unlikely.
